The Liberal Democrat MK Council boasted a recycling record rate of almost 40% in April 2007. At the same time the Council started if "cash for trash" scheme to encourage recycling. The Council checks rubbish outside randomly selected addresses to see if residents are recycling, if they are they are given £100 cash.

Sam Potts said: "We have trebled recycling rates sine the Liberal Democrats took over in 2002. I see no reason why here in MK we cannot reach the 40% recycling rate for Milton Keynes 40th. birthday in July!"
